Our role once we’ve supplied your new vehicle isn’t finished there, at Bridle we are committed to ensuring you receive the highest levels of aftersales care, one part of this service is offering our clients a facility to carry out online Driver Checks.
Following a recent change in DVLA rules there is an increased need for more frequent driver licence checks.
Previously, drivers who had lost their licence as a result of refusing (or forgetting) to submit it for endorsement within the statutory 28 day period, were given a “Grace Period” in which to continue driving. This was to give them a chance to comply with the law by submitting their licence for endorsement.
However, since November 2010, the DVLA removed this concession, and any drivers who have not submitted their licences within 28 days of the offence will automatically lose their right to drive until they return the licence for updating.
As a result of these changes, the number of drivers operating a vehicle illegally is set to increase dramatically – In the past 12 months DVLA estimates that approximately 42,000 drivers failed to return their licence for updating, resulting in their licence entitlement being revoked.
Moreover, Industry statistics show that nearly one in three of all drivers covering business mileage have penalty points on their licence. Employers now have a duty of care to ensure that any employee driving on business has a valid driving licence. If they haven’t they are driving illegally!
Our Driver Check service ensures that you can demonstrate that you have met the terms of both the HSE Guidelines, ‘Driving at Work’ and S.87 (2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 which state:
“It is an offence for a person to cause or permit another person to drive on a road a motor vehicle of any class if that other person is not the holder of a licence authorising him to drive a motor vehicle of that class”.
